| I’m writing this in West Linn (south of Portland) where I will be spending a month with my newest grandchild, Tori, while her mommy goes back to work. Older sister Hailey will be going to day care most days. But I will have her on Wednesdays when I take her to her dance class, lots of fun for both Hailey and grandma. So I am enjoying my time here.
We had a good group attend the district Leadership Training Event in February. This was our first event in the new Seattle-Tacoma District with women attending from north and south. We had women all the way from Olympia to Bothell and Bremerton to Fall City. But the merger seems to be working out and we will make it work better with time.
Thanks go to all those who helped with the reception after worship the day of the dedication of our building remodeling. We didn’t seem to have many visitors but it was a lovely day anyway.
I will have missed the “Have a Heart for Mission” program on February 19th. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there but from what I hear from the plans, it was going to be a very nice event. Now we have Spring coming and more events to plan for. The Conference Young Women’s Retreat (which welcomes women up to age 40) is coming April 1-3. We can encourage some of our younger women in the congregation to think about going to that. The Atlantic Street Center Dinner is on Friday, April 8th. The Quilt Group will be hanging quilts for the quilt auction as usual and you are invited to buy a ticket and come for the dinner. Then comes Day Apart, our annual district spiritual retreat, on Sat., April 9. You won’t want to miss this; Joyce O’Connor McGee will be the keynote speaker. Day Apart will take place at Auburn UM Church in the former Tacoma District, not too far away for many of us to attend.
And our annual spring Salad Luncheon is coming Sat., April 16th. Our first ever Saturday luncheon last year went very well and we had many younger working women attending. We are excited about having them be a part of the luncheon again this year. For our program, we have lined up a male singing group called the “Sojourners”. They are part of the group that a number of us heard at the Conference Annual Meeting in Bothell several years ago very entertaining! We will need lots of help on the luncheon -- you will get a chance to sign up at our March general meeting. Jean Yeager will preside at the meeting and of course Alice Blattner will be chairing the luncheon. Between the two of them you will be receiving more details about how you can help at the luncheon. Jean Yeager will be ticket chairman again so you can look for her to have tickets available soon.
Love & Peace,
Jean

| The following are goals set by our United Methodist Women for the year 2005. These are being printed here as a result of the Church Council asking the various groups in the church to set goals and publish them.
Our primary goal for this year as well as last year is to reach out to younger women in the church by having at least four meetings and/or events open to all women that will happen in the evening or on Saturday when our younger working women are available.
For a number of years we have been a Seven Star unit in our District. Units may attempt to become Five Star or Seven Star units. To accomplish this during the coming year, we are required to give in the following ways:
Five Star:
- 1. Pledge to Mission The unit makes a pledge to what is called undesignated giving. This money goes to support the various mission programs of United Methodist Women at their discretion.
- 2. Special Mission Recognition Mission Recognition pins are purchased by our unit each year to be given to someone (or several) who have done something which helps to fulfill our purpose in serving mission.
- 3. Gift in Memory Cards are available to be sent to the family when someone dies with notification that money has been sent to Women’s division as a memorial.
- 4. Gift to Mission Cards may be purchased for $5 available for new baby, “thank you”, “in service to Christ”, special day or “Thinking of You”.
- 5. World Thank Offering Participating women put money aside in thanks during the year to be turned in during a special service towards the end of each year.
Seven Star:
- 1. Mission Magic Our unit makes a collection each month of spare change or small bills.
- 2. Love Ribbons These ribbons are available through the unit or at district or conference events. These ribbons come on a card and are intended to be given as thanks to someone special or recognition of a special event.
We also participate in the Mission Today Program. Meeting these criteria are also goals. More on Mission Today next month.
